Barbie Smoothie

This Barbie Smoothie recipe is the ultimate morning milk-less shake! I am only using the Summer of Barbie for marketing purposes… ha! But seriously, this shake is pinker than the Dreamhouse. Let your food be fashionable!

Blend, Barbie, Blend! If I hear that toy’s name one more time… I’ll eat all 7 cups of this shake.

Teal holds my heart, but cotton candy pink is a close second. Or purple! Ooh, purple. Now I’m dreaming of tie-dye bell-bottoms with all my soul’s colors. Be still my eating heart.

Enough gushing. Start guzzling!

Barbie Smoothie Recipe

  • 1.5 cups ice
  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (120g)
  • 1 frozen banana (80g)
  • 4 oz. orange juice (120g)
  • 1 scoop (23g) vanilla protein powder (I love Orgain brand- not an affiliate)
  • 1/4 teaspoon each: xanthan and guar gum (can use all of one over the other if you can’t obtain both)
  1. Crush the ice first until your blender resembles a snowglobe! Don’t marvel at it too long or the ice will melt.
  2. Add frozen strawberries and banana, followed by orange juice. Blend, starting on low and increasing to high. If it’s being stubborn, add a dash of water or more OJ.
  3. Add the gums first, then protein powder. I like to add a few more ice cubes to keep the powder from flying all over the blender and refusing to incorporate into the smoothie.
  4. Once it’s pink and gravity-defying, pour into 1 GIANT cooler or 3 tall glasses. Or, you can go the smoothie bowl route. I never got into the bowl trend, and that’s ok. I ate this with an elegant No Cow bar in Birthday Cake flavor.

Yes, this is a high-carb recipe. I’m exploring how different macro ratios effect my physical and mental energy. Sometimes your body wants to see how many squats it can pump out, but your brain wants to watch I Love Lucy. The opposite is true. My brain yearns for that fleeting endorphin flood after exercise, but my body would rather sit in lotus position on the floor. The latter occurs when my feet hurt from standing all day, which is every day. They aren’t shaped like high heels, you know;)
