Healthy Cinnamon Toast Recipe (Fat-Free, Sugar-Free)

Did your parents ever slap together some cinnamon toast for breakfast? If not, your health didn’t miss out. Maybe your mouth did, but we can fix that with this HEALTHY cinnamon toast!

Can this count as a recipe? Fine. I’ll settle for an idea. This truly healthy cinnamon toast is free from I-Can’t-Believe-It’s-Not-Butter! spray, brown sugar, artificial sweeteners, and margarine. It’s crisp, sweet, and warm. It will transport you back to your nineties breakfast table. You know the smell and the smile it evokes. But did it give you lasting energy? Or did it seduce you into a nap and coat your teeth with a sharp, grainy substance? The cinnamon toast equation is simple: bread + something slather-able + cinnamon sugar = heaven. Great, now substitute x for sugar. X=monkfruit sweetener. Plug the toast into a full breakfast of tofu scramble, fresh fruit, and tempeh bacon.

Healthy Cinnamon Toast Recipe

Serves 1, easily multiplied. Just… do the math.

  • 1 slice sprouted grain bread or bread-like vehicle of your choice (can be gluten-free, keto, whatever.)*
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon (please don’t stress about measuring that) natural sugar substitute
  1. Mix the applesauce, cinnamon, and sweetener in the smallest cup you own.
  2. Spread onto bread, and send it into the sacred vat of your toaster.

You know your appliance best, so adjust the time and heat levels accordingly. I turned the dial to 5. Not sure what that means but it makes great healthy cinnamon toast!

*Please don’t use Wonder Bread! That negates the purpose of this recipe idea. Some breads contain added sugar, albeit a minute amount, but be wary if you want this to be 100% sugar-free.
