Churro Popcorn Recipe (Oil-Free)

This Churro Popcorn Recipe is a great way to both sweeten AND spice up movie night! It only takes 3 minutes and 3 ingredients to make- no exaggeration.

Tired of grocery store popcorn prices? Want something festive for all the Fall holidays? This churro popcorn recipe is perfect for you…

It’s vegan, gluten-free, oil-free, and sugar-free! But the whole family will approve. And you don’t need to give the popcorn a spray ton for the toppings to stick;)

I recently discovered how to make popcorn in the microwave, and now I sneer at the price tags of pre-popped, pre-bagged exploded corn at Trader Joe’s. Reach for the pouch of raw, crunchy kernels and save a ton of money!

WARNING: ONCE YOU POP, YOU CAN’T STOP. THIS RECIPE AND METHOD MAY SPUR AN ADDICTION TO RIDICULOUSLY SIMPLE, RIDICULOUSLY DELECTABLE SNACKS.

Churro Popcorn Recipe

Yield: 3 1/2 cups (see notes)

WHAT YOU’RE GONNA NEED:
  • Paper bag
  • 3 tbsp golden popcorn kernels
  • Dash of salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1-2 tbsp sugar or sugar alternative, such as monk fruit
WHAT YOU’RE GONNA DO:

1. Add popcorn kernels to bag. Throw in some salt.
2. Fold the flap down twice, about 1/4 inch deep, creasing well.
3. Lay down in the microwave and let her blow for 2 minutes (time varies, my wattage is 1100.)
4. Once combusted, dump the cinnamon and sugar into the bag while it’s still hot. Close the top and shake well.
5. Pour into a bowl and pull up a film! Squealing is permissible.

Notes:
-Yes, you can make a savory popcorn. Just omit the cinnamon-sugar steps. Nutritional yeast (nooch) is highly recommended. But that would form another addiction.
-Feel free to multiply the servings! Serving a big crowd? Add 2 or 3 bags to the microwave, depending on its size.
-Add some raisins and peanuts for GORP mix.
-Powdered sugar also works, but ensure to distribute it evenly through the bag, coating every popped kernel. Brown sugar is too dense.

Enjoy Churro Popcorn for Dia de los Muertos, Halloween, or Non-specified October Celebration!
